Granddaddy Purple, which goes by many other nicknames, from Grand Daddy Purp, Granddaddy Purple Kush, Granddaddy Purps, and GDP, is an hybrid indica marijuana strain. It first hit the market in 2003 after breeder Ken Estes propagated the strain in Northern California, merging Purple Urkle and Big Bud.
As previously mentioned, in 2003, Ken Estes merged Purple Urkle and Big Bud to create GDP. First developed in Northern California, the GDP strain thrives in warm, dry climates—think 70-80°F. Whether cultivated indoors or outdoors over an 11 week span, it can be grown in narrow spaces thanks to its short, compact nature (it reaches between two and three feet). The best part? It is known for yielding up to 17 ounces per plant.
Grandaddy Purple and Purple Urkle have many similarities, from their indica-dominant genotype, relaxing effects, and fruity grape flavors.
